Teddy Update--3.5 months

So, update #1: We had a baby on September 18th! His name is Theodore William Van Fleet, and he is adorable, good-natured, and so sweet! He's a great sleeper, a pretty good eater, and has such a sweet smile.

I didn't want his early life to go completely undocumented (as a 2nd child myself, I am sensitive to doing all of the same things for him that I did for JJ). I am already behind, but here are some quick updates.

3.5 months:
Teddy can now reach out and grasp objects and shows interest in doing so. He loves sitting in his bouncy seat (JJ never did) and smiling at the owl and mushroom. He can now grab the items if he's not properly strapped in and has sunken down a bit--which of course never happens. ;)

This is Teddy at 2 days old.
For comparison, this is JJ. I think they looked so much alike!

With JJ I was so strict about only breastfeeding him with no formula supplementation, that he was extremely thin at Teddy's current age. It wasn't until he started daycare that he started formula, and that was at 3 months (since I was going back to work and had no stored breast milk). With Teddy it was clear that I once again had low supply, despite doing everything I could to augment, so rather than make the same mistake, we started formula supplementation pretty quickly. Maybe after the first month? Teddy is thriving now. He's not the chunkiest baby around, but he is filling out nicely and is definitely gaining weight. I think he was in the 40th percentile at his 2 month checkup.

Teddy has started laughing now, and he definitely has JJ's laugh. It's great! He loves hearing the alphabet sounds, and starts really smiling around "duh, duh, duh".

He gets less tummy time than JJ did at his age, mostly because we're more "on the go" than I was with just JJ. He can mostly hold his head/neck up when we're holding him, and he loves practicing "standing". But when you put him on his tummy, he definitely has a long way to go before he can hold his head up for long periods, and he is far from rolling over. JJ rolled over at 2.5 months, which is early.

Teddy has put himself on a pretty good schedule. He takes one long nap from the late morning to afternoon. He eats every 4 hours or so, and has been increasing the amount he eats. We're up to about 5.5 oz a feeding.

He sleeps with us in bed, and that is when we nurse. It is a special end of and beginning of day time for us. It also minimizes the amount of time we're up in the middle of the night, although I always wake up in the middle of the night and can't get back to bed for a bit.

He "talks" a lot and blows bubbles. He loves to snuggle, and can generally fall asleep with Mommy holding him.

Teddy's secret is that his hair looks red in most light. I can't tell if it's a reflection of his scalp or if he may actually have reddish hair. Time will tell!

That's about it for now. I will hopefully update more frequently, but let's be honest...you'll hear from me in 3 months!
